Student Unification Party (SUP) Celebrates 44th Anniversary
Press Release Issued by the Student Unification Party, University of Liberia
The Vanguard Student Unification Party of the University of Liberia (SUP), a grassroots revolutionary student movement founded in 1970 by the sons and daughters of the underserved, underprivileged and the less fortunate downtrodden ordinary mass rural poor and urban slum people of Liberia emerged on the face of the planet earth and at the main campus of the University Liberia at the time when the mass majority of the Liberian People, the natives were grossly marginalized from the body politic of the Liberian State, and deprived heavily in the distribution of the wealth and natural resources’ benefits of the Liberian State.
The Liberian State and its body politic was dominated by the minority class of Liberian people defined and categorized as the free black slaves from the United States of America who came with an identity of a slave mentality and tried to impose same on the mass majority of the native African Liberian People.
This identity of a slave mentality was nurtured and imposed by the minority class through their self made leaders of the Liberian State on the mass majority of the native African Liberian People to the extent of allowing the possibility of conscripting and recruiting poor native African Liberian sons and daughters as domestic slaves in the homes and houses of the minority class as it was with them in the United States of America. This imposition of a slave mentality prevented the native African Liberian people of acquiring education, political power that will allow full participation in national decision making and economic wealth. The outcome of this imposition was and is devastating, dehumanizing and devil aged.
Against this backdrop, SUP as an offspring of this by product was compared to emerged solely to organizing the underserved, underprivileged, less fortunate and the downtrodden ordinary mass majority of the poor native African Liberian People around their needs, hopes and aspirations and taking them to action to demand their full participation in national decision making and the acquisition of economic wealth derived from the national resources.
Therefore and in view of this historic mandate, the Vanguard Students Unification Party of the University of Liberia since its birth on October 20, 1970 have tried to blazed the trail and lived up to the challenge:
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
The Nine year of Ellen Rule and the world outlook of SUP:
The Student Unification Party of the University Of Liberia cognizant of its historic mandate of ensuring that the needs, hopes and aspiration of the mass majority of Liberian People are met has viewed this nine year rule of Ellen as a total waste in the democratization of the Liberian State. ELLEN Presidency has not improved the lives of the mass ordinary Liberian People. (Our People are Hungry, Our People are Homeless, and Our People are jobless! In the Streets, In the Markets, in the Schools and in the Rural and Urban Slum Communities the People are dying in Poverty! It is a fact now and let SUP hasten to say that Ellen as the President of the Liberian State in her nine year rule did not perform before the deadly Ebola epidemic, is not performing during the period of Ebola and is unlikely to perform in accordance with the wishes and interest of the Liberian people after Ebola. What has characterized the nine year rule under Ellen include the following:
This is sad and therefore on this note, the Politburo and the Central Committee of the Vanguard Students Unification Party have mandated me the Chairman to with immediate effect called on all Partisans and Veterans of SUP working in this Ellen Government not as civil servants but as political servants and appointees to considered resigning in the next 3 months or else, the Politburo and the Central Committee will decide the next course of action.
The Current State of Affairs:
While Ebola crisis presents a very serious health emergency in the country and to the extent that our people are dying---May their souls rest in peace and SUP condolences go the bereaved and afflicted family and friends.
The fight against Ebola however does not necessarily require a constitutional state of emergency that, among other things isolates the country by such declaration and further undermines trade and commerce and other vital aspects of the national economy; and now, in spite of the fact that the State of Emergency and the curfew have done little or nothing to eradicate the Ebola virus in the country, the President is now calling for the extension of the State of Emergency, as well as partitioning the National Legislature, under the State of Emergency, to suspend certain fundamental rights of the Liberian people under the pretext of fighting Ebola. Some of these rights include: Freedom of Speech; Freedom of Assembly, including worshiping in churches and mosques; freedom to travel freely inside and outside the country, etc. The Vanguard Student Unification Party as an integral part of the Liberian Society is vehemently opposed to the suspension of the fundamental rights of the Liberian People as guaranteed by their Constitution, and in the same vein SUP condemns and rejects unequivocally any attempt to extent the State of Emergency!
SUP today wants to be categorical to saying that the spread of EBOLA in almost all of the 15 counties of Liberia is linked and equated to the lack of leadership as demonstrated by Madame Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, her cabinet including the arrogant old man Health Minister, Dr. Walter Gweniegale. Therefore, SUP is convinced beyond all reasonable doubts that to succeed in the stopping of the EBOLA spread, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, her arrogant Health Minister and all cronies at the helm of State Power must Step Down without delay!
The University of Liberia:
The University of Liberia under the circumstance is with no doubt faced with serious challenges in the implementation of the chartered mandate. Nevertheless, the Vanguard Student Unification Party as usual in the protection of Academic Freedom, Social Justice and Peace is tirelessly working with likeminded progressive forces to ensuring that the University is not undermined.
Let it be made clear that the interim leadership of the University of Liberia Student Union is without an interim president. The University administration through the office of Dr. Emmett A. Dennis, the President of the University of Liberia is determines to weaken the strength of our dear Vanguard Party and the democratic culture of the University. This situation is being exploited by some of our colleagues who in collaboration with such plan to the extent that they are masquerading as president of the interim student leadership with no mandate from SUP are portraying This act must stop now or else those involved risk expulsion.
Finally, while we are in the celebration of our party anniversary, the Politburo and the Central Committee have mandated me to with immediate lift the expulsion of Cde. Siafa Kanneh from the Party. We hereby welcome back the comrade in the rank and file of our dear party.
Issued by the mandate of the Politburo and Central Committee of the Vanguard Students Unification Party on this 20th day of October, AD 2014 (SUP 44th Birth Anniversary) on the Main Campus of the University of Liberia, Capitol Hill, Monrovia, Liberia.
Signed: Cde. Nathan N. Kpao
