On yesterday, the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC) released the first batch of results from the Tuesday, October 10, 2017 presidential election.  It can be inferred from the first batch of results that out of 349,357 total valid votes counted, so far, the Congress for Democratic Change of George Weah obtained 137,606 valid votes (about 39%), while the Unity Party of Joseph Boakai obtained 106,456 valid votes (about 31%). So, the Congress for Democratic Change is leading the Unity Party by eight percentage points.

Political observers believe that if the trend continues, there will be a runoff between the Congress for Democratic Change and the Unity Party.
