The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) is said to be contemplating on rehabilitating the University of Liberia Fendall campus to accommodate at least 15,000 students.

Mainland China willingness was disclosed recently at the official launch of Liberia China Friendship Organization at the Auditorium of the University of Liberia main campus.

UL President Al-Hassan Conteh revealed that need assessment for the project has been completed. The project includes the renovation of the science, engineering buildings, soil testing and computer labs as well as fencing the entire property of the UL at Fendall.

Making remarks at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Lin Songtain reaffirmed his country’s commitment to help Liberia in her rebuilding process.

He expressed gratitude over the enactment of law by Liberia on the One China Policy which demonstrates that Liberians are now willing to harness bilateral relationship with Mainland China.

Ambassador Songtian said the move by Liberians was very commendable to the Chinese people and their government thereby strengthening the PRC’s unflinching promise to support Liberia socio-economic status both nationally and internationally

The Chinese Ambassador used the opportunity to urge friendly nations wishing to cement ties with Mainland China not to have contact with Taiwan because according to him, “China has 170 states worldwide with diplomatic ties due to its policy, while Taiwan only has 24 countries.”
For his part ,Unity Party Chairman Charles Clarke reiterated government’s commitment to the One China Policy.

He said China constitutes the largest population in the world thereby making it the highest consuming country as well as a trading partner with its economy being third to Germany, adding, “Liberia needs its assistance.”

Liberia, he said, has natural resources while China is blessed with technological know-how noting that, “this is why there should be good relationship between the two.”

The people’s Republic of China had contributed immensely to the development of Liberia prior to the civil crisis .China constructed the SKD Sports Complex, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, among other infrastructural facilities.
