Atlanta, Georgia

May 7, 2003

Atlanta, Georgia - Nimba Educational & Medical Fund (NEMF), is dismayed by the prolonged violence committed against the innocent people of Liberia and specifically the recent violent incursions into various communities in Nimba County. NEMF commends all organizations and individuals that are involved in providing humanitarian relief to these innocent victims, especially the women and children. To assist in the humanitarian effort in Nimba County, the Board of Directors of NEMF arranged an emergency meeting on April 5, 2003 and allocated $2,500.00 USD. In the same meeting, the Board of Directors commissioned a committee in Liberia to serve as an intermediary body between NEMF and relief teams in Nimba County. The composition of the committee includes one religious leader, one businessman, one university professor, a Nimba County Market Women’s representative, one Nimba University Student association representative and a Nimba County Elder. Among their duties, the committee will compile and forward, to NEMF office in Atlanta, a detailed accountability report of the organization’s donation.

Nimba Educational & Medical Fund is based in Atlanta, Georgia and prides itself as being the humanitarian arm of Nimbaians in the United States of America. It is operated by a group of Liberians and Americans who donate their time and resources freely to make a positive difference in the lives of rural Liberians. In recent years, NEMF has donated thousands of textbooks to the Nimba County School System and more than $100,000 worth of medical supplies to Nimba County. As reported by Dr. Saye Parwon, former Nimba County Health Officer, thirty-eight clinics in ten county districts benefited from the medical supplies.

Nimba Educational and Medical Fund joins with the voices of wisdom that condemn all evil acts of violence committed upon the innocent people in Liberia.
